WdG Open Access
Walter de Gruyter (WdG) is pleased to announce the introduction of a new feature in our journal publications: WdG Open Access. As of January 2008, journal authors will have the option of making their accepted articles freely accessible on the journal website in exchange for a one-time charge (processing fee).
WdG Open Access will be offered in addition to the classic publication channel, which remains free of charge to authors. This will result in a mixture of non-open access and open access articles within the online version of each journal. Open access articles will be clearly indicated on the online journal's list of contents. Online, print and combined subscription options will continue to be available to institutions, and to individuals if applicable.
WdG Open Access will only be available to authors whose papers have been accepted for publication. Therefore, all submitted articles will continue to undergo the established, entirely independent peer-review process.
In addition to publication on the journal website, authors of articles included in WdG Open Access are permitted to post the final, published PDF of their article on their own website, institutional repository, or other free public server immediately upon publication.
Authors who have published their work in WdG journals before 2008 will also be entitled to apply for their papers to be retrospectively included in the WdG Open Access publishing program.
How WdG Open Access Works
Upon acceptance for publication, authors may sign up for open access by downloading the pdf-file of the WdG Open Access License Agreement, and submitting the completed agreement along with their corrected proofs.
The authors, or their institutions or funding agencies, are required to pay a processing fee for open access. This fee is adjusted to the subject-related processing complexity: STM journal articles require 2,000 Euro while humanities journal articles require 1,000 Euro. This amount can also be invoiced in US Dollars. Authors in the USA, Canada and Mexico are charged in US Dollars (according to the current exchange rate), and authors in all other countries are charged in Euro.
The open access charges are in addition to any normal color printing charges that may apply.
